Gemstone Designs

When it comes to gemstone designs, there are literally thousands and thousands out there for us gem cutters to choose from. Designs are often 'optimised' for a particular type of stone, such as quartz or topaz, so as to bring out the best performance - sparkle - brilliance in the final cut gem. It's all about light!

Selecting a design usually comes down to a combination of what shape will give the best yield from the rough stone and personal taste... some designs are nicer then others and become favorites. There are also classics that have stood the test of time, such as the 'Standard Round Brilliant' and the 'Princess' cut.

You should always choose the gem that is most pleasing to your eye, be it the design, the colour, whatever. Everyone sees different things in each stone and for every person there is a stone.

See the designs that I've used for some of my cut gemstones here.
